Complicações locais no cateterismo venoso periférico em neonatos: coorte prospectiva

2016
The objectives were to assess the incidence of complications related to the use of the first PIC in newborns and to identify risk factors associated to it. This is a prospective observational cohort, with a quantitative approach; it was developed at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital in a capital city at the South of Brazil; the data collection occurred between February and June of 2013. It totalized 134 PICs. The incidence of complications was 41.01%. Females (p=0.0152) presented the lowest risk to develop complication and, it occurs higher risk to develop complication (p=0.0296) in the first 48 hours after puncture. The evidence resulting from this study underlies a quality care, benefiting the study population.
