The outlook for the establishment and management of marine protected area network in China

Abstract: This paper describes the basic conditions for the development of marine protected areas (MPAs) of China, and analyzes the characteristics of marine ecosystem diversity and species diversity according to the needs of protecting marine ecosystems. The establishment and management of marine protected areas in China are discussed, including classification and grading, quantity and distribution and main tasks of management, based on which to put forward an outlook for integrating and optimizing the marine protected area network and improving the management of the network from the perspective of designating marine protected areas to fill the gap in protecting the crucial areas of marine biodiversity.
