Export and Transportation of Zebrafish

Abstract Zebrafish have become a significant animal model in biomedical research, and due to the increase in unique genetically modified strains, there is a need to share fish lines between the institutions around the world. The requirements for shipping and receiving live animals can be very different from country to country; hence, zebrafish facilities need to develop a relationship with a trusted courier, experienced in live animal shipments and have a general understanding of the requirements for safely shipping the zebrafish from one facility to another. This chapter will provide an overview of the documentation, packaging materials, and shipping methods for the shipping zebrafish adults, larvae, embryos, and cryopreserved sperm.
