La importancia del tratamiento psicoterapéutico en pacientes con consumo problemático de sustancia psicoactivas

The problematic consumption of psychoactive substances is considered a public health problem due to the harmful implications that it has on certain brain systems, thus causing dependence, making the individual prone to certain chronic diseases, intoxication and overdose, as well as well as family, financial and mental health problems. Because the consumption of psychoactive substances is generalized and that it constitutes a topic of global interest, this research was carried out with the objective of highlighting the importance of psychotherapeutic treatment in patients with problematic consumption of psychoactive substances. Due to its type of study, it is analytical-descriptive in nature, which includes the bibliographic review of journal articles, books, manuals that address the strategies to deal with this problem. In the analysis, as a fundamental part in the recovery and reintegration of patients, the creation of public policies and institutions that provide rehabilitation services is positioned, which use psychotherapy from an integrative and cognitive-behavioral approach for the development of their care models. It is concluded that substance use is a problem that requires a comprehensive approach with strategies that allow the patient to identify and correct problematic maladaptive behaviors and help to strengthen their self-control.
