Summary and Perspective

The focus of this work was to synthesize and characterize new POM based ionic liquids with thorough investigation of their physiochemical properties in order to create a basis for further studies of this relatively new compound class. Polyoxometalates being purely inorganic compounds could be of high interest for industrial use due to their stability and promising examples in catalysis and materials science. Transfer into organic reaction media is however a prerequisite for many applications. Typically, POMs form salts with high lattice energies and often low solubility in many common solvents. Converting POMs into ionic liquids is therefore an ideal route to deliver them into otherwise non-accessible reaction media.
