A Study on Structure Design for Low RCS Phased-Array Antenna

2020
Phased-array antenna is one of the main scattering sources of stealth aircraft. To reduce the RCS (Radar Cross Section) of the phased-array antenna is an important measure to improve the radar-evading ability of the aircraft. Beside electronic technology, reasonable structure design is also a necessary means to reduce the antenna RCS. This paper introduces the concept of radar stealth, and analyses the principles of t antenna-structural scattering and antenna-mode scattering. A series of structural design methods and control measures for low RCS are proposed to reduce the scattering of the antenna. If phased-array antennas are applied with these structural techniques, the RCS can be reduced by more than 10 dB. All of the research content will provide valuable design basis and technical support for the design of low RCS phased-array antenna in the future.
