“The Retarded in Society: A Brief Conceptional and Philosophic Overview”

The general notions which underlie public attitudes to retardation are obviously important to us since they constitute a societal backdrop to the continuing effort by concerned groups to achieve social equity for the retarded. Unfortunately a'nythi'ngi more than cursory references to these is beyond the scope of a short paper. One can however say that they indicate widespread misconception; that they are at best inappropriate: at worst frankly prejudicial.
