EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE WETTING DEFORMATION OF THE SOIL USED IN THE CORE WALL OF EARTH-ROCK DAM UNDER CONSTANT PRESSURE

2013
By using the conventional oedometer consolidation test, the deformation characteristics of unsaturated remolded soil under constant compression stresses subjected to wetting process were analyzed. The test result indicates that the deformation characteristics were different under different constant compression stresses. The test result is as follows: under the pressure of 50kPa the specimen was expansive;under the pressure of 100kPa,150kPa and 200kPa,the deformations had a transition from expansion to compression, and the final total deformations were respectively different from the deformations compared with prior to the saturation process;and under the pressure of 300kPa and 400kPa,the collapse was observed. The deformation characteristics may lead to cracks in the core of earth-rock fill dam which cause the hydraulic fracture.
