1992
Relying on information gained through various studies of the past decade, this report illustrates the problems faced by a large city in crisis. To do this, it documents the linkages between Bangkok's transportation sector, its traffic congestion, energy use, and urban air quality. Through discussion of Bangkok's urban development, transportation system and infrastructure, energy consumption, fuel production and quality, and emissions levels, this report forecasts future growth rates to the year 2005-2006, both under present growth trends and under scenarios of possible changes to the transport system, vehicle technology and maintenance, fuel type and quality, choice of transport mode, transportation energy use, traffic, and emissions. Lastly, this report assesses policy, regulatory, technical, and other measures that could reduce energy and environmental impacts of urban transportation.
