Diagnosis of Internal Grinding Process by Power Monitoring.

It is difficult to perform the grinding operation in an optimum state because the surface condition of the grinding wheel changes considerably with the pr6gressing grinding time. Therefore, one of the most important problems in grinding operations is to determine the wheel tool life reasonably. Grinding with a worn wheel often causes the decrease of the workpiece dimensional accuracy and, consequently, it results in the occurrence of such troubles as grinding burn. In this study, the in-process monitoring method using the power sensor is proposed to detect some malfunctions due to the tool wear in the internal grinding process. Monitoring of the grinding power, the sensor for which can be easily installed into a grinding machine, must be efficient in order to evaluate the sharpness of the grain cutting edges.
