ANALYSIS OF PILES UNDER HORIZONTAL DYNAMIC LOADS

THE PRESENT PAPER COMPRISES AN ANALYTICAL INVESTIGATION TO FORMULATE A SUITABLE MATHEMATICAL MODEL TO DESCRIBE THE BEHAVIOUR OF PILES SUBJECT TO DYNAMIC HORIZONTAL LOADS, WHICH COULD POSSIBLY BE USED IN THE STUDY OF SEISMIC EFFECTS. THE AUTHOR THEN DISCUSSES THE PROBLEM OF CHOOSING THE SIGNIFICANT PARAMETERS. THEN FOLLOWS A REVIEW OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SOLUTIONS FOR THE CASES OF STATIC AND DYNAMIC LOADS. THE THEORY OF FOUNDATION MODULUS AND THE USE OF MINDLIN'S SOLUTION ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL, AND THE SOLUTIONS OBTAINED BY MEANS OF THE TWO METHODS ARE COMPARED. FINALLY THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INFLUENCE OF THE VARIATION OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARAMETERS ON THE SOLUTION. THE COVERING ABSTRACT FOR THE CONFERENCE IS IRRD NO 306088.
