Radar detection of fish shoals

2004
The present paper gives a description of radar techniques for detecting the shoals of fish. Full-scale testing was carried out in the Barents, Norwegian and Northern seas by means of the multipurpose radar system MARS from altitudes of 7000 m (a preliminary estimate has been made of the anticipated shoal concentration area) and 100-200 m (detection of shoals in a given area). The observation results are in good agreement with the visual results provided by expert observers.
