Relationships of ulinastatin and alpha-1-microglobulin contents in urine and cerebrospinal fluid with dementia

1994
The amino acid sequence of ulinastatin (UT), a trypsin inhibitor found in human udne, is highly homologus with the protease inhibitory domain of amyloid ~protein precursor. This domain is closely related to the ~amylold deposition in brains of Alzheimer-type dementia patients. Moreover, a UT-like immunoresotive substance has been discovered in brain tissues of subjects with senile Alzheimer-type dementia. Similar to UT, aipha-l-microglobulin (ctl-M) in various body fluid is processed from the same precursor protein and variations of the c~l-M level in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have been noted in certain neurological disorders. In the present expedment, we investigated the relationships of UT and c~I-M contents in udne and CSF with dementia.
