Your Treatment will not Work if the Patient does not take it

2012
Many patients do not get the full benefit of treatment for IBD because of nonadherence. Despite the high costs of nonadherence for patients and the healthcare system, effective interventions have proved elusive. In this chapter, we examine the reasons for nonadherence and show how research into patients' perspectives of IBD and its treatment provide new insights into why nonadherence is so common and what might be done to help patients get the best from IBD treatments through optimal adherence to appropriate prescriptions. © 2011 Blackwell Publishing Ltd..
