Application Of Atomic Force Microscopy In Protein And Dna Biochips Development

2002
In recent years the biotechnology and analytical medicine have seen great advances in development of novel biochip technologies that open new horizons for identifying and quantifying biomolecules and diagnosing diseases. The hope is that the smaller/faster/cheaper approach that worked so well for computer-chip manufacturers will be applied to biotech as well. The goal is to use these tools to better understand the role played by genes in health and disease, to speed the drugs development, to improve diagnostic tools, and even to build handheld devices that produce parallel medical tests by one measurement (Cahill, 2001; Vo-Dinh et al, 2001; Weinberger et al, 2000).
