A model for the efficient use of electricity produced from renewable energy sources for electric vehicle charging

2013
The paper proposes a microgrid model composed of a photovoltaic plant, thermal unit, battery energy storage system and electric vehicle charging stations. The microgrid represents the power supply system of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing connected to the distribution network. Apart from the description of the microgrid model itself, the paper describes the technologies used in the model and the developed simulation model. The simulation model is realized in the FICO Xpress programming optimization tool. Additionally, the paper presents the results of the simulations for ensuring the maximal utilization of electricity produced from the PV plant and thermal units within the microgrid which are to be used for PEV charging and consequently for lowering the microgrid's peak load caused by PEV charging.
