New phases of the compound Cs2Mo4O13

1999
Abstract The solid state reaction between Cs 2 MoO 4 and MoO 3 was studied with 1:3 molar ratio. Thermal study of the reaction mixture in air showed the formation of Cs 2 Mo 4 O 13 of phase A, which undergoes phase changes, on further heating, to give phases B and C of the same compound before melting. The three phases were isolated by quenching the product obtained by heating Cs 2 MoO 4 +3 MoO 3 in air in temperature ranges of 733–753, 773–783 and 803–973 K. X-ray diffraction patterns of the phases A, B and C have been indexed on monoclinic unit cells. The high temperature X-ray diffraction studies also confirm the existence of three phases of the compound Cs 2 Mo 4 O 13 .
