A METHOD PAPER: A STUDY ESTABLISH ORGANIC POULTRY FEED AND FISH FEED USING LOCAL AGRICULTURE BY-PRODUCT

2020
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to conduct research on paddy by-product to be used as a new source of material for poultry feed and fish feed. Background: The paddy industry produces wastes from rice bran (RB) and rice husk (RH) produces the major proportion (nearly 30%) of rice production. Paddy-industry are rich in many bioactive and nutraceutical compounds, such as polyphenolics, carotenoids and dietary fibre among others. are a major valuable biomass and present potential solutions to problems of animal nutrition and the worldwide supply of protein and calories, if appropriate technologies can be used for nutrient addon and enrichment. Methodology: A total of twelve experimental diets were formulated where’s six experiment for poultry and six experiment for fish, with the fish meal diet as the control. Ten chicken (G. domesticus hybrid) chicks obtained from a local hatchery, weighing 35 ± 1 g and measuring 6 ± 0.5 cm were used for each diet formula, totalling to 120 chicks. Ten Black Tilapia (O. mosambicus) fingerlings obtained from a local hatchery, weighing 5.5 ± 0.3 g and measuring 5 ± 0.5 cm were used for each diet formula, totalling to 120 fingerlings. The chicks and fingerlings were allowed to adapt to their surroundings for two weeks followed by four days to acclimatize towards the new diets and fed twice a day to apparent satiation. Six diets containing rice bran at increasing replacement levels of fish meal at 10% (RB) 5 % (RH), 20% (RB) 30 % (RH), 40% (RB) 50 % (RH), 60% (RB) 5 % (RH), 70% (RB) 5 % (RH), were evaluated in the growth studies. Chicken and fingerlings were randomly selected and measured at the beginning of every week for. Study of the standard length, total length and weight gain were used as indicators for growth. All data collected from nutrient analysis, digestibility trials and growth studies were expressed as mean and standard error mean (SEM) and used to determine the efficacy of the alternative protein source on the growth of the chicken and fingerlings. Result: Based on the results of the preference test, paddy by product were selected as the best alternative animal and plant protein to substitute fish meal at different inclusion levels for chicken but not so good for fish. The study on growth show that Even though the use of rice bran at high-rise ratios of the chicken is still able to have a chicken digestive system still be able to digest the food even as to inhibit the growth of chickens while not to face the fish which will cause death to fish. Conclusion: Paddy can be used as a substitute for material sources for animal feed. For further studies, the study should be implemented in depth.
