An analysis of psychological support needs and intervention measures of cancer patients after discharge

Objective To explore the needs of psychological support and effective intervention measures for cancer patients after discharge. Methods 560 cancer patients admitted to our hospital from January 2018 to May 2018 were randomly selected. Questionnaire survey was conducted on the needs of psychological support after discharge. Seven services including psychological lectures, psychological knowledge manual, psychological counseling for individual cases, group support group, communication between convalescents, psychological hotline and online psychological counseling were used to explore the needs of cancer patients after discharge. Result Psychological rehabilitation knowledge, lectures and hotline are the most acceptable psychological rehabilitation nursing intervention measures; with the increase of age, the demand for psychological rehabilitation nursing guidance decreases; the demand of female cancer patients is significantly higher than that of male patients; education level and disease types also affect the demand for psychological nursing guidance. Conclusion The psychological support needs of cancer patients after discharge are characterized by specialization. The psychological support team led by cancer specialist nurses and psychological professionals is encouraged to carry out a variety of targeted psychological rehabilitation interventions according to patients′ gender, age and disease type by using the method of medical social workers.
