2.5 Gbit/s unrepeatered transmission with a directly modulated laser and without dispersion compensating fibre over 385 km (412 KM with FEC) of pure silica core fibre

The possibility to use direct modulation without chromatic dispersion compensation, in long distance unrepeatered systems over pure silica core fibre, has been investigated. 2.5 Gbit/s transmission was demonstrated on 385 km (412 km with forward error correction).
