Estimation of driving rain index for India

2002
Abstract Average annual driving rain indexes (AADRI) for 350 stations spread all over India have been worked out. Based on AADRI values, the level of exposure of buildings to wind driven rain at these stations has been classified as (1) shielded (2) moderate (3) high and (4) severe. It is shown that about 75% of the total stations constitute shielded sites whereas only a few stations located in Maharashtra and Meghalaya belong to severely exposed category. The coastal areas of Gujarat, Maharastra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and West Bengal, Hilly regions of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, and northeast regions of India are the places where exposure of buildings to driving rain is moderate to high.
