PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a narrow disperse and highly pure polyalkylene glycol derivative having an amino group at a terminal thereof and to provide a polymerization initiator used in the method, and a precursor thereof.SOLUTION: There are provided a method for producing a polyalkylene glycol derivative having an amino group at a terminal thereof, in which a compound represented by general formula (I) is used as a polymerization initiator, a compound represented by general formula (I) and a precursor thereof. In the formula, Rand Reach independently represent a protective group for an amino group, or one of the Rand the Rrepresents H and the other of the Rand the Rrepresents a protective group for an amino group, or the Rand the Rrepresent a cyclic protective group by being linked with each other to form a ring; Rrepresents a linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; Rrepresents a single bond or a 1 to 20 C linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbon group that may include hetero atoms; a total number of carbon atoms of the Rand the R(or a total number of carbon atoms and hetero atoms) is 4 or more; and M represents an alkali metal.SELECTED DRAWING: None
