Modellazione 3D della struttura del Monte Cornello (Trento).

2013
An Early Jurassic graben structure is exposed on the Monte Cornello (Trentino, Italy). The structure interests three Jurassic formations: Rotzo Fm., Loppio Oolitic Limestione Fm. and Monte Zugna Fm. A study of the structure was undertaken applying an integrated apprach combining classical geologic mapping and 3D modeling techniques. Mapping resulted in the production of a 1:10.000 scale GIS-based map of the studied area. Additional information about the geology was obtained from the LIDAR (resolution 2meters) of the Provincia Autonoma di Trento and by photogrammetry, applied to cover the vertical and unaccessible walls of the southern slopes of Monte Cornello. The quality of the geologic map was enhanced processing data in the geomodeling software GoCad. Quality-check was performed in the 3D environment both on the units' boundaries and on the cross sections to ensure their consistency. Results of the analysis of geologic map and cross sections allowed to highlight four Early Jurassic faults forming a conjugate system with NNW/SSE direction. This is consistent with the larger scale fault system active during the Early Jurassic . The sharp thickness variations of the two formations in correspondence of the faults permitted to highlight two tectonic phases, one coeval with the Monte Zugna Fm. and the other one coeval with the Rotzo Fm.
