Relación de la maloclusión con la postura corporal y huella plantar en escolares

2021
Introduction:  the presence of malocclusions is usually accompanied by asymmetric alterations at different levels of the body. Objective:  t o determine the relationship between  malocclusion with body posture and footprint in students of the primary school ¨Carlos Manuel de Cespedes¨ in the municipality of Cienfuegos. Materials and methods:  an observational, correlational cross-se ctional study was carried out at the  “ Carlos Manuel de Cespedes ”  primary school in Cienfuegos, from September 2019 to January 2020. The universe  was studied completely, and  consisted o f 127 students.  The variables studied were: age, sex, malocclusion, body posture and footprint. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results:  11-year-old students predominated, representing 42.52 %, as well as male  students  (52.76 %). Angle's class II was the most frequent  malocclusion,  with 44.09 %, as were incorrect body postures and footprints, in which scoliosis and flat feet stood out in  29.13 % and 64.57 %, respectively . There was no statistically  significant relationship between the types of maloc clusion and posture (p = 0.550 ), nor was an association between malocclusion an d footprint verified (p = 0.192 ). Conclusions:  malocclusions are not always accompanied by postural problems and in the cases in which an abnormal footprint is detected, it does not necessarily imply the presence of a malocclusion in association with it. Despite their high frequency of presentation, these variables were not statistically significant.
