NASA scatterometer research data processing system: Requirements and design

A data processing system for research users of the NASA scatterometer data is introduced. A system with multiple processors and large storage capacity is needed to deal with the volume of sensor data (40 Mbytes/day) and the computationally intensive processing it requires. Dealiasing is required to select a unique wind vector from the multiple solutions obtained. Wind field maps are required to give investigators an overview of the large volumes of data.
