MCSE 70-297 Remote access and address management

2003
The methods used to gain remote access into the organization's network and the users, and locations used for remote access can impact the implementation of Active Directory (AD) and must therefore be carefully considered. Dynamic host control protocol (DHCP) is widely used as a way of managing IP addresses and it must be included in any design and implementation plans. This chapter discusses remote access, the available methods, and the locations from which remote access can be provided. It describes the available authentication methods required to be assessed. The chapter also presents the implications of a RAS deployment with respect to AD, the policies available for users as well as machines, the chosen authentication strategy and its implementation, and accounting strategies. Furthermore, the chapter deals with IP address management and the use of DHCP. Most AD network infrastructure deployments include a DHCP solution, used to assign IP addresses and IP configuration.
