espanolLa mastitis es una enfermedad global que afecta la productividad de la vaca lechera. La prevalencia de esta enfermedad esta determinada en gran medida por la inmunodepresion que ocurre durante el periodo de transicion. La suplementacion con cobre estimula el sistema inmunologico. Esta investigacion tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto de la suplementacion de cobre en vacas Siboney sobre los niveles de inmunoglobulinas, el riesgo de incidencia de la mastitis y la fertilidad. El cobre fue determinado en suero sanguineo mediante absorcion atomica. El diagnostico de mastitis fue efectuado a traves de la prueba de California. Las inmunoglobulinas fueron determinadas por espectrofotometria empleando un metodo turbidimetrico. La administracion de una solucion (SUPER- CU-CIMAGT_2014) en dosis de 2ml conteniendo 50 mg de sulfato de cobre, via subcutanea, en vacas hipocupremicas a los ocho meses de gestacion y 30 dias posterior al parto, permitio aumentar la tasa de inmunoglobulinas, restituyo los valores de cobre en el suero sanguineo, disminuyo significativamente (p EnglishMastitis is a global disease that affects the productivity of the dairy cow. This research aimed to determine the effect of copper supplementation in Siboney cows on immunoglobulin levels, the risk of incidence of mastitis, and fertility. Copper was determined in blood serum by atomic absorption. The diagnosis of mastitis was made through the California test. The immunoglobulins were determined by spectrophotometry using a turbidimetric method. The subcutaneous administration of a solution (SUPER-CU-CIMAGT_2014) in doses of 2 ml containing 50 mg of copper sulphate to hypocupremic dairy cows at eight months gestation and 30 days postpartum permitted an increase in immunoglobulin rates, restored the values of copper in the blood serum, decreased significantly the risk of contracting postpartum mastitis, and improved herd fertility
