Dynamic Response Analysis of GR/EP Composite Panels Under Blast Wave Pressure Loading

2005
‡§ ** Dynamic responses of composite panels subject to blast wave loading are investigated using a finite-element analysis code based on a geometrically nonlinear solid shell element formulation. The analytical formulation incorporates a material damage model with failure criteria for matrix cracking, fiber breakage, and fiber-matrix shear failure. The effect of strain rates on material strength is incorporated into the composite failure models. A trinitrotoluene (TNT)–based, blast loading module is used for the calculation of loading on the panels. Numerical results are obtained for a graphite/epoxy composite panel to investigate the behavior of composite panels undergoing large deflection while experiencing material damage.
