Diagnosis of sexually transmitted diseases in pregnant adolescents

1989
The authors examined 100 healthy pregnant women for the presence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae Herpes simplex Mycoplasma hominis Ureaplasma urealyticum and Chlamydia trachomatis. Blood was also taken for the examination of specific antibodies to these microorganisms. Only those antibodies such as Cytomegalovirus Treponema pallidum Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Condyloma acuminatum were examined by cervical cytology. In 85 adolescents the authors discovered 5 (6%) patients with C. trachomatis 4 of whom had another microorganism in addition. One had N. gonorrhoeae M. hominis and U. urealyticum 1 had U. urealyticum and 2 had M. hominis and U. urealyticum. In relation to Mycoplasmas 69 (81%) of 85 had it 4 (5%) had M. hominis 46 (54%) U. urealyticum and 19 (22%) had both. The seropositivity to CMV was 96.25%. No other microorganisms were found. The authors concluded that the rate of sexually transmitted diseases in Chilean pregnant adolescent women is high especially with no traditional bacteria. (authors modified) (summaries in ENG SPA)
