Constructing NiS-VS heterostructure for efficient overall water splitting

2020
Herein, NiS/VS heterostructures are designed as efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. The vanadium modifies electronic structure and induces a large amount of active sites. Strong interactions between interfaces of heterostructure lead to lower charge transfer resistance and enhance intrinsic activity of active sites. As a result, NiS/VS only needs a potential of 158 mV for HER and 240 mV for OER to reach 10 mA cm-2. When serving in a two-electrode electrolyzer, NiS/VS can achieve 10 mA cm-2 at a low voltage of 1.64 V. Our research may provide new prospective in constructing bifunctional heterostructure electrocatalysts for high efficient overall water splitting.
