Salvage hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for appendiceal mucinous adenocarcinoma with peritoneal mucinous carcinomatosis

2017
Abstract Appendiceal tumors, particularly those with patterns of advanced malignancy, are rare in clinical practice. This study describes a patient with a mucinous adenocarcinoma originating from the appendix, who also had disseminated peritoneal carcinomatosis and abundant mucinous ascites despite chemotherapy and targeted therapy. Salvage cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) resulted in nearly complete remission.
