Еffectiveness of Plant Derived Essentials Oils Products towards Some Aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae) Species

This study considered the evaluation of newly created plant protection products based on plant oils for insecticidal action towards three aphid species: Macrosiphum rosae (L.), Aphis nerii Boyer de Fonscolombe and Aphis pomi (de Geer). The tested formulations are based on: coriander ( Coriandrum sativum ) oil, lavender ( Lavandula spica L. ) oil, tobacco ( Nicotiana tabacum L. ) oil and fenugreek ( Trigonella foenum-graecum L. ) oil prepared as ready to use plant protection products. The products were created at the University of Food Technologies, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The tests revealed strong insecticidal action of all products, especially the formulation based on tobacco oil. Additional tests for phytotoxic action of the tested plant protection products were conducted with two cultivars ("Golden Delicious" and "Jonagold") of 5 year old apple trees, 5 year old oil-yielding roses ( Rosa damascena ) and 3 year old oleander plants ( Nerium oleander L. ) in accordance with standard № 227 of OECD. Terrestrial plant test: vegetative vigor test and apple pollen tree pollen germination tube inhibition tests with established LC 50 and LC 90 of the each formulation according to tested aphid species.
