The binding of the N-methylphenazinium cation to ΦX174 DNA

Abstract In order to measure the binding constant of the N -methylphenazinium cation to single-strand DNA, the binding of this cation to ΦX174 single-strand DNA has been investigated by equilibrium dialysis. A single binding constant of 1.3 · 10 4 M −1 has been obtained. This result is discussed in terms of the potential usefulness of this mutagen in distinguishing between single-strand or double-strand molecular precursors in frame-shift mutations.
