Improving the lives of people with joint injury and osteoarthritis. I am idealistic and want to make a difference. Considering the organisational, financial and political barriers to change in healthcare, I realise that my obligation as a researcher is to work strategically and take every opportunity to promote evidence-based medicine. For the past 15 years I have started every day with a 2 km run. I have played sport all my life, but trained like most people do—larger amounts at fewer times a week, as we were taught in physiology class. In 2000 I did a postdoc in Boston and prioritised family and work life, leaving me no time to run.
