Synthesis of Hydrazone Derivatives From 1,2:5,6-Di-O-Isopropylidene-α-D-Ribo-Hexofuranos-3-Ulose

Protected D-ribo-hexos-3-ulose, 1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranos-3-ulose, is converted into the corresponding hydrazone derivatives by reaction with hydrazine, methyl-, phenyl, and tert-butylhydrazine. Two isomeric (Z and E) hydrazono-carbohydrates were obtained. The structures of these isomers were established by 1H and 13C NMR as well as by single-crystal X-ray analysis.
