As part of Maintenance of Certification (MOC), all clinical medical physicists should be expected to periodically demonstrate some clinical research in the form of meeting presentations and published articles.

If the weightiness of a topic can be measured by the persistence of observed discussion, surely the role of research in the professional life of the clinical medical physicist would rise to the top of any list of notable issues that we face. In this Point Counterpoint debate, we will hear from two medical physicists, each with standing in the worlds of both clinical practice and research effort. These Point Counterpoint contributions will focus on one aspect of our broader professional environment, the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process and whether or not that structure should be used to encourage (or require) research effort in clinical practice.
