Civilian GNSS Spoofing, Detection, and Recovery

2020
This chapter's goal is to report on the state of the body of research into spoofing and detection. It reviews the fundamental approaches that can be used for global navigation satellite system spoofing and spoofing detection. The chapter discusses progress in these areas and defines the state of the art at the time of writing. It describes various types of spoofing attacks and the technology used to mount them. The chapter covers spoofing detection systems. It also discusses methods for recovering authentic position, navigation, and timing (PNT) information after an attack has been detected. Spoofing detection is useful even if an authentic PNT solution is not recoverable. In that case, the user receiver is lost, but it is better to know that one is lost than to believe a false position fix. Best of all, however, would be a recovery that allowed. The chapter reviews the methods of testing defenses against spoofing.
