Immensecolorimagedatahastohandlein multimedia processing, sohugestorage spaceis required. Toovercome theproblem ofcolor image datastorage management, colorimagedata compression isnecessary. Thispaperpresents the approach based onFractal coding whichfalls inthe lossycompression category. Proposed approach firstly, separates thethree color planes ofRGBcolor space images andthenthegreylevel Fractal Coding algorithm is applied on individual planes independently. Proposed approach isimplemented forthenumerous indoor andoutdoor color images. Implementations arecarried outwithdifferent size ofdomain blocks andrangeblocks. Encoding and decoding time, imagecompression ratio andpeak signal tonoise ratio parameters areusedforthe performance evaluation. Results arecompared and represented with the performance graph. Implementation results show thatsmaller compression ratio withhigher reconstruction quality canbeachieved withsmaller domainblocks and viceversa. Theproposed approach canbeuseful according to theindividuals' requirement of compression ratio andimage reconstruction quality forthehugecolor imagedatabase inmultimedia. Theencoding timeofproposed approach ismorein comparison withthedecoding timebutmore competitive withrespect tothecompression ratio in comparison withthe existing colorimage compression standards.
