The implementation of read-in and decoding a number based on Grover's algorithm in Mn4 SMM

2006
Abstract Single-molecule magnets (SMM) Mn 12 with non-equidistant energy levels are considered the potential systems to perform Grover's algorithm [M.N. Leuenberger, D. Loss, Nature (London) 410 (2001) 789]. Following Leuenberger and Loss, by means of the numerical exact solution to the time-dependent Schrodinger equation, we study the process of read-in and decoding a number based on Grover's algorithm using Mn 4 SMM with a half-integer ground state s = 9 / 2 . Our results show that the number we decode depends on the amplitude and the duration of the external magnetic a.c. field as well as its relative phases. Moreover, the second-order transverse term E ( S + 2 + S − 2 ) in the spin Hamiltonian does not bring a great change to perform Grover's algorithm based on the scheme proposed by Leuenberger and Loss. However, it will suppress the spin excitation induced by the magnetic a.c. field.
