WITH RESPECT TO ULTIMATE STRENGTH, PRESTRESSED MEMBERS CAN BE TREATED AS NONPRESTRESSED MEMBERS WITH AN EQUIVALENT AMOUNT OF NORMAL REINFORCEMENT. THE THEORY FOR REINFORCED BEAMS CAN THEREFORE BE EXTENDED TO REINFORCED AND PRESTRESSED BEAMS. THE EXPERIMENTAL BEHAVIOR OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS UNDER TORSION CONFIRMED THE VALIDITY OF A SPACE TRUSS MODEL. THIS TRUSS FAILURE MODEL FORMS THE BASIS OF THE ULTIMATE STRENGTH THEORY FOR GENERAL CROSS SECTIONS IN TORSION AND BENDING AND IS DEMONSTRATED AND DIAGRAMMED HEREIN.
