Crown thioether chemistry of iron(II/III). Synthesis and characterization of low-spin bis(1,4,7-trithiacyclononane)iron(III) and crystal structure of [FeII([9]aneS3)([9]aneS3(O))](ClO4)2•2NaClO4•H2O

The oxidation of (I) with PbO2 affords the low-spin Fe(III) complex (II), characterized by magnetic susceptibility measurements, electronic and Moessbauer spectra, whereas the oxidation in aqueous solution with Na2S2O8 leads to oxidation of the ligand yielding (III) together with mixed crystals containing the cations of (I) and (III).
