Clinical analysis of surgical treatment of bowel obstruction secondery to malignancy

Objective To summary the clinical experience in the treatment of bowel obstruction secondery to malignant tumors.Methods The data of 35 cases with bowel obstruction underwent surgery were retrospectively analyzed.The surgical indication was determined by abdominal CT,gastroenterography,endoscopic examination and the patients were well treated before surgery.ResultsBowel segment resection was performed in 28 cases,bowel anastomosis in 4 cases and ostomy in 3 cases.Complications included marginal fistuia in 4 cases,ureteral injury in one case,disruption of wound in one case. There were two death cases.The patients were followed-up for 4 to 25 months and therapeutic outcomes of 33 (about 80%) cases were satisfactory.Conclusion Operation is one of the effective treatments for bowel obstruction secondery to malignant tumors.Determining the cause and site of obstruction,giving sufficient fundamental preoperative treatments and selecting the best regime of operation are the key points of successful surgery.
