Polyethylene Endoprostheses for the Treatment of Malignant Bone Tumors: A Long-Term Follow-Up Study

Our experience in the treatment of bone tumors employing a custom-made endoprosthesis began in 1955, when an acrylic endoprosthesis was used. Since 1971, the acrylic has been replaced by polyethylene and we are still employing it, albeit with constant improvements based on evaluation tests done in our biomechanical laboratory.
