Effects of ketamine on the δ-band power percentage of quantitative pharmaco-EEG in rabbits

2012
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of ketamine on the δ-band power percentage of quantitative pharmaco-EEG(QPEEG) in rabbits.METHODS 24 adult rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and were intravenously injected with 4,8,16 mg·kg-1 of ketamine and nomal saline respectively. The power spectral analysis was conducted to check the changes of δ-band power percentage of QPEEG in each group before and after drug infusions.RESULTS After the rabbit was injected, the δ-band power percentage of each brain region significantly increased from 0.5 min to 5 min(P0.05,P0.01) and reached its peak between 1 min and 2 min. Moreover,a positive correlation between δ-band power percentage and the doses of ketamine was detected from 0.5 min to 5 min.CONCLUSION Ketamine can increase the δ-band power percentage of QPEEG in a dose-dependent manner, which suggests that δ-band power percentage of QPEEG may be a desired index of the depth of anesthesia monitoring.
