Abstract A topology-information relationship between the structures of ketones and saturated aliphatic esters and their retention times in gas chromatography The retention times of forty-five saturated aliphatic esters and forty saturated aliphatic ketones measured by gas-liquid chromatography on an SE-30 column at five temperatures between 120 and 210° have been correlated with their structures using the DARC topological system. Previously calculated parameters for the two groups of compounds have been compared. It has been shown that the logarithms of the relative retention times of eighty-two compounds can be accurately correlated with their structure by means of a sixteen-parameter equation.
