Clinical and pathological features of breast cancer and their effect on survival
2013
Objective. To determine the role of clinical and histological parameters of morphological on the five-year survival of patients with breast cancer. Methods. A retrospective clinical study was conducted at the Department for Anatomic Pathology Diagnostics, Clinical Center 'Kragujevac", and included 146 patients, operated on for breast cancer since June 2004 to March 2007. Histopathological analysis was performed on tissue specimens after surgery and monitoring of various clinical and morphological histological characteristics was also done. Survival was monitored under the consilium, telephone contact with the patient and occasionally by checking in the death register. Statistical analysis included descriptive method and survival analysis, at p≤0.05. Results. Five-year, overall survival in the study population of patients with breast carcinoma was 69.33%. The difference in survival was observed depending on the histological type of carcinoma (p=0.0348), stage of disease (p=0.0382), cancerous infiltration of perinodal adipose tissue (p<0.001), vascular invasion (p<0.001) and tumor size (p=0.0156). Conclusion. Our findings may contribute to more comprehensive viewing of the disease, as health, social and economic problems, with emphasis on the importance of early detection and diagnosis of complete, which would have a therapeutic, and therefore a prognostic value in patients with breast cancer.
