A Cooperative Autonomous Vehicle Guidance System

2012
This paper proposes a cooperative autonomous vehicle guidance system which autonomously guides vehicles from a starting point to the goal within a local service area. The whole system is composed of several subsystems; cooperative vehicle control subsystem, autonomous vehicle guidance communication subsystem, autonomous vehicle guidance terminal subsystem, infrastructure-based recognition subsystem, and autonomous vehicle guidance server subsystem. The proposed system extends sensing range beyond the visible horizon, which is based on the cooperation of sensors mounted on vehicle and those installed on infrastructure. The architecture in hardware and software are explained, and a service flow in autonomous guidance which is able to autonomously guide and control vehicles at intersections is also discussed.
