Unit Commitment Considering Electrolytic Aluminum Load for Ancillary Service

Considering the huge potential of electrolytic aluminum load for demand response, this paper proposes a unit commitment model considering electrolytic aluminum for providing ancillary service. Firstly, based on the relevant characteristics of the pots which are the core equipment in aluminum smelting and without affecting the normal production of the aluminum plant, a model of the electrolytic aluminum load for providing ancillary service is established. Then, a unit commitment considering electrolytic aluminum load model for providing ancillary service is proposed. Results show that considering electrolytic aluminum load for providing ancillary service can reduce the total cost of the power system and improve the economy. Moreover, the net profit of the aluminum enterprise in providing ancillary service is analyzed.
