Studies on techniques for breeding [raising] seedlings of Pinus massoniana in root-thinning containers.

This paper mainly reported the results of three years of breeding fine seedlings of Pinus massoniana with root-thinning container and semi-light stroma.(1)In breeding the seedlings with root-thinning container,its root system could stretch down the directional grooves,not forming curled roots.Root cutting by air could promote occurrence of plenty of lateral roots and hair roots.Root system and stroma could trghtly connected to form firm root ball,which helps to increase survival rate of afforestation.(2)Box container is better than tube container. Growth and biomass of the seedling bred with box container are 12.8%,and 24.6% higher than those of seedlings bred with tube container.(3)By comparision of 4 indexes of growth of seedling,qualitithy of root,physical and chemical property,capability of keeping water and fertilizer,in 1994,No.1 of stroma was best;in 1995 and 1996,No.1 of stroma was best,No.2 and No.4 were next.The several types of fine stroma were compounded with bark powder,saw-dust and pigsty manure.Three years of test showed that,the best stroma is the stroma compounded with bark powder,saw-dust and pigsty manure at a propertion of 1∶1∶1.
