A new genus and species of Nemonychidae (Coleoptera) associated with Araucaria angustifolia in Brazil

A nemonychid weevil without trace of a rostrum is described as Brarus mystes Kuschel gen. et sp. nov. It is associated with Araucaria angustifolia of the gymnosperm family Araucariaceae. Adults are abundant high up in the canopy of the host species in areas of natural occurrence when trees exhibit freshly open malr strobili (cones). Larvae develop in these cones and once mature vacate them to spend the remainder of their development in the soil to emerge as adults some six to eight rnonths later. Adults and larvae are described and key features illustrated.
